Piedigrotta Bakery: Enjoy the Tiramisu at This Bakery Stalwart Near Union Wharf

Piedigrottta Bakery opened its doors in Baltimore’s Little Italy in 2002, though its history goes back over half a century. The proprietor of the bakery, Carminantonio Iannaccone, opened the original Piedigrotta Bakery in Italy in 1969. The same year, while serving as chef at another restaurant, Carminantonio invented the tiramisu, a dessert that would become famous across the globe. After decades of success in Italy, Carminantonio and his wife, Bruna, came to the United States, settled in Baltimore, and opened up a new Piedigrotta Bakery. Within months, it was recognized as one of the best bakeries in the city and cultivated a loyal following of customers.

Regulars sing the praises of just about everything served here, with special attention going to the affogato (gelato with a shot of espresso poured over the top) and Italian-style deli sandwiches, not to mention the warm customer service and the famous tiramisu.

Located not too far from Union Wharf, Piedigrotta Bakery opens at 7 a.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.
