Expand Your Mind at the Maryland Science Center

The Maryland Science Center at the Inner Harbor has made in impression on generations of local families. The museum traces its history all the way back to 1797, making it one of the nation’s oldest organizations dedicated to the promotion of scientific knowledge.

If you haven’t been since you were a kid (or if you haven't been at all), it’s worth a visit. A major expansion of the museum in 2004 brought new exhibit halls, an upgraded planetarium and IMAX theater, and a permanent collection of prehistoric fossils. Some of the most popular exhibits include “Science & Main,” an examination of the physics of everyday life, “Space Link,” an exhibit of astronomy and space exploration, and the “Shed,” a hands-on design and invention workshop. Younger children especially enjoy the interactive activities, while grown-ups take advantage of some of the special events. Admission is reduced to $10 after 5 pm on Fridays, and teachers get free admission year-round with school-issued ID.
