Starting Summer Right with the Perfect Picnic

For a great way to kick off the start of summer, celebrate International Picnic Day on Thursday, June 18! Though the day’s origins are unknown, it is celebrated in many different countries, and is the perfect outdoor activity!

How to Have the Perfect Picnic
There is no right or wrong way to have a picnic, as long as you have fun with it! All you need is your picnic blanket, food, and a place to have your picnic. For picnic foods, you’ll want something that is easy to eat, such as sandwiches or kebabs. You can also bring portable outdoor games for some extra fun in the sun.

Where to Have the Perfect Picnic
There are lots of great places throughout Baltimore City, not too far from Union Wharf, where you can have a great picnic!

Patterson Park
Patterson Park is just a 15-minute walk from Union Wharf and is a fabulous picnic destination! The 137-acre park was also a site for the War of 1812 and offers plenty of amenities including a lake, garden, and a picnic pavilion.

Canton Waterfront Park
Canton Waterfront Park, known for its incredible harbor views, is just over a mile away from Union Wharf and is the perfect location for your picnic. The park is also the site of the Korean War Memorial, so make sure to pay a visit while you are there.

Federal Hill Park
This historic park overlooks the water with breathtaking skyline views, making it a beautiful spot to picnic! The hill was a major site for the War of 1812 and the Civil War, making it full of history with monuments and cannons to check out as well.

Fort McHenry
Picnic at the famous Fort McHenry, the national monument that was a base during the War of 1812, WWI, and WWII, as well as the inspiration for our National Anthem! The fort is now a beautiful national park located right on the water in Locust Point, and even has its own picnic tables!

Pierce’s Park
Pierce’s Park near the Inner Harbor is a beautiful park, filled with art installations, and a Baltimore favorite. The park is known for having homophones written in the bricks and is full of odes to language and nature that make it something special!

Preston Gardens
Preston Gardens in Downtown Baltimore is known for its unique split triangle design. The park is only ten minutes away and is a wonderful picnic spot, with beautiful green areas, as well as amazing architecture, and incredible staircases leading up to the surrounding buildings!

DiPasquales has been around for over 100 years and has plenty of delicious picnic foods! The Italian staple has brunch options that are perfect for a morning picnic, as well as specialty hot and cold sandwiches including their signature “The Real Italian.”

Wet City
Wet City in Mount Vernon is open Wednesday-Sunday for takeout, curbside, and delivery. If you stop by, you have to get their Piña Colada Bear, which is a Piña Colada Slush in a honey bear bottle and goes great with their salads and burgers!

Rosina Gourmet is known for their delicious, fresh, made to order sandwiches. Rosina has a huge menu with breakfast and lunch sandwiches, perfect for a picnic at any time of day!

Trinacria in Mount Vernon has been serving authentic Italian food for over a century! The deli and market have plenty of easy to eat picnic foods to enjoy, including hearty sandwiches, fresh meats and cheeses, and traditional desserts.

Deli at Lighthouse Liquors
The Deli at Lighthouse Liquors is the perfect place to stop if you are on your way to Canton! The Deli has a huge sandwich menu with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. You can order online in advance and pick up outdoors.
