Union Wharf Residents: Explore Maryland this Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend

Living right in the heart of Fells Point definitely has its perks. But, sometimes, it’s nice to get away and explore somewhere new. With rising COVID-19 concerns, that’s been difficult to do. Here are three in-state destinations to explore this Labor Day weekend that aren’t your typical trip to OCMD.

Solomon’s Island
Solomon’s Island is located in southern Calvert County, just under two hours away from your home here at Union Wharf.

Things to do:
Solomon’s Island offers many different activities for all types of interests. One of the more popular things to do is stop and enjoy Perigeaux Vineyards & Winery. On Saturday, you may be able to enjoy some yoga or live music at the winery. Some other activities include checking out the fossils at Calvert Cliffs, Exploring the Calvert Marine Museum, and last but not least, checking out the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory.

Places to eat:
Some of the great places to eat include breakfast at Lotus Kitchen. For lunch, you’ll want to consider The Lighthouse Restaurant and Dockbar for the seafood and great views. When dinnertime comes around, you can’t go wrong with Stoney’s Kingfisher’s, which has all of the Chesapeake classics. After dinner, end the day with some soft serve ice cream for dessert from Cone Island Ice Cream Shop.

Rock Hall
Rock Hall, AKA The Pearl of Chesapeake, is a beautiful spot for a safe Labor Day weekend vacation.

Things to do:
Enjoy Rock Hall by taking advantage of the biking trails or kayaking. There is also gorgeous onsite birdwatching. You may want to fish with Gunsmoke Charters, or sail across the Chesapeake Bay. Check out the town’s website for more ideas on how to explore this hidden gem.

Places to eat:
Some of the best places to eat around Rock Hall include Java Rock, Bay Wolf, Osprey Point Inn, Waterman’s Crab House and Dock Bar and Harbor Shack. All of these are great options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as for seafood and bar/grill style food.

St. Michaels
St. Michaels is a beautiful coastal town in Talbot County that boasts some amazing nautical view.

Things to do:
Popular things to do in St. Michaels include visiting museums, boating, cruises, biking and walking the many parks and trails. You can also enjoy some relaxing time at the spa. One of the museums that is an absolute must-see is the Classic Motor Museum.

Places to eat:
In St. Michaels, you can dine casually or fancy, but both will include stunning waterfront views. For casual dining, be sure to check out Awful Arthur’s Seafood Company. For a more elevated dining experience, be sure to give Theo’s Steaks, Sides, and Spirits a try.

Happy Labor Day!
