Participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October
Breast Cancer Awareness

Did you know 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime? With such a significant risk of breast cancer for individuals all over the world, the fight to cure cancer is stronger and louder than ever before. Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which takes place during the month of October, emphasizes activists’ goals to raise awareness about all aspects of breast cancer—from prevention to causes to treatment. When so many people are fighting for their lives, access to resources and support is one of the most important tools.

Make Strides in Baltimore

In Baltimore, the support for those diagnosed with breast cancer is abundant and allows infinite ways for others to get involved. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a campaign that allows individuals to unite together and walk for a great cause. Not only does the walk raise awareness and bring attention to breast cancer, but the campaign also raises money to help fund cancer research, as well as financially assist those diagnosed with treatment costs. On October 24th, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is set to start at 8 am at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg YMCA in Baltimore. The event is completely free to attend and is a great way to promote awareness for an important cause.

For those who are unable to attend the walk for any and all reasons, Making Strides is also hosting virtual activities, so that everyone can comfortably and safely get involved. The organization has also created an online shop where you can buy merchandise from t-shirts to hoodies supporting the organization, while also repping Baltimore. A percentage of each item will be donated to the American Cancer Society, so you can wear your shirt with the knowledge that you are supporting a great cause. With a list of ways to raise money and take part in the ongoing event, Making Strides makes it easy to find a fun way to participate in the cause from your own front door.

RISE, together

Another great way to support is to make a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s RISE Initiative. This program divides its donations into various areas of need including screening, education, support, and general funds. The funds raised and provided to those in need can help a woman receive a life-saving mammogram or to fund education programs to provide critical information to those without access to it. Every dollar counts and donating to the RISE Initiative can make a positive change in someone’s life.

Paint the Town Pink

Union Wharf residents, this October is the time to rise up in any way and make a difference in someone’s life, and to create a better future for those fighting. At the front desk in the lobby, there is a Paint the Town Pink fundraiser for residents to contribute to. No matter how you choose to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, whether virtually or in-person, your involvement and care are appreciated in spreading the word about breast cancer.
