Go Green at These Earth Day Events
Earth Day

We all have one thing in common: the Earth! Each year, we celebrate Earth Day to honor our planet and remember how important it is to work together to keep it clean. While we all can take action every day by making sustainable choices, Earth Day is a great opportunity to do your part to protect our planet––and have some fun while doing it!

Earth Day Celebrations at Union Wharf

The Earth Day celebrations are starting right here at Union Wharf this year. On April 22nd, we’ll be hosting an open house and giving out succulents to everyone who takes a tour. If you’re a current Union Wharf resident, be sure to let your apartment-hunting friends know!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Trash Wheel!

There’s another very important holiday on April 22nd: Mr. Trash Wheel’s 8th birthday! You may have spotted him in the water, but in case you aren’t familiar with his story, Mr. Trash Wheel is a special trash interceptor machine that collects and disposes of any garbage that comes his way. He is sustainably powered by a unique combination of solar and hydropower.

This little wheel has made a big impact: over the years, he has helped collect 2,004.47 tons of trash and debris. Head to Pierce’s Park on Earth Day to celebrate his birthday and treat yourself to a commemorative Mr. Trash Wheel beer from Peabody Heights Brewery.

We can only help the planet if we keep ourselves healthy! Celebrate Earth Day by making time for self-care. On Friday evening, BreakAway is hosting an Earth Day BreakAway Flow yoga, a spring-themed class sure to help you feel more grounded and in touch with nature. Then, on Saturday you can enjoy a relaxing, rejuvenating morning at B’More SUP’s Earth Day Celebration including paddling, yoga, and essential oils.

Clean-ups, like the Every Day Should Be Earth Day clean-up on April 16th, are a super popular Earth Day event and a great way to have a positive impact on your community. Just grab your gloves and start picking up! You can help keep the trails at Holt Park clean during their Earth Day Clean-Up on April 24th from noon-2pm. Or, head to the Federal Hill Preparatory School clean-up on April 24th from 10am-2pm. Join the clean-up crew to plant some apple trees, tidy the sensory garden, and more.

Want to hone your green thumbs? Stop by Canton Ace Hardware’s Garden Party sale for 20% off the entire store. It’s their biggest sale yet, so it’s a great chance to stock up on anything you need! They’ll also have other local vendors to explore including Baltimore City Master Gardeners and Good Dog Farm.

Learn about sustainable practices in the wine industry at Linganore Winecellars’ Earth Day Celebration on April 22nd at 4pm. You can get an exclusive look at eco-friendly wine-making practices and then enjoy the results with a glass of your favorite variety.

Happy Earth Day

Thanks for helping us help keep Maryland beautiful for generations to come, Union Wharf residents!
