Wishing You a Wonderful Summer in Baltimore

Shell we vacation this summer? We shell

If you’re looking for a quick getaway, then you’re in luck! Your home at Union Wharf is so close to so many amazing destinations. Here are some of our favorite nearby summer get-aways and quick trips, all within 3 hours of Baltimore.

We’ll Sea You in Maryland

Chesapeake City

Chesapeake City is the closest to your home at Union Wharf, and is about 1-hour drive from Baltimore. Located in one of the world’s most active commercial canals, Chesapeake City is bustling with summer activities. Infamous for their food, Chesapeake City has various dining options with superb seafood. They also have various trails and shopping opportunities. Oh, and don’t miss out on the chance for a water cruise!

St. Michaels

Maryland’s boating town St. Michaels was recently named as one of the Top 10 Best Small Coastal Towns by USA Today. Since the 1600s, St. Michaels has been a popular destination for water-related activities; the harbor and marina are truly unmatched. Beyond boating and fishing, the town is known for its unique boutiques, antique shops, fine art galleries, and museums. The local eateries are astounding, and include ice cream shops, fine dining, wineries, breweries, and more. Since it’s located in the Eastern Bay, St. Michaels is about a 1.5-hour drive from home.

Tilghman Island

Located within the Chesapeake Bay, Tilghman Island is a quaint town best known for its stunning waterfront. Just two hours away, Tilghman Island is a wonderful spot to enjoy local eateries and seafood. Due to their various marinas, guests are encouraged to boat, fish, and crab.

Ocean City

Ocean City is one of Maryland’s most popular summer spots. Between the beach and the boardwalk, there’s just so much to do. If you’re looking for more than just your “average” beach day, OC offers paddleboarding, surfing, and fishing. Oh, but that’s not all. Beachgoers can also golf, bike, rollerblade, and go horseback riding. Ocean City also offers plenty of shopping and places to enjoy cultural arts and museums. Don’t forget about the rides and games that riddle the boardwalk. Since it’s just 2.5 hours from home, don’t miss out on the opportunity to get some boardwalk fries.

Assateague Island National Seashore is approximately 2.75 hours away from Baltimore. Located in Maryland, Assateague Island is a sight for sore eyes. Besides the shores and beaches, visitors can explore the marshes, forests, and bays—all whilst surrounded by wild ponies. For those planning to stay nearby—or camp on the premises—Assateague offers kayaking, boating, fishing/crabbing, hiking, bike riding, and horseback riding.

Deep Creek Lake

Bordering Pennsylvania and West Virginia, Deep Creek Lake has stunning mountain views and scenery. Just three hours away from Baltimore, Deep Creek Lake is the go-to spot for summer activities. Even though it is a manmade lake (it was built for generating hydro-electric energy), Deep Creek is Maryland’s largest freshwater lake. Lake-goers can enjoy water sports, golfing, biking, and hiking. Guests should also visit the lavender farm, the Wisp Resort, local arcades, or downtown Oakland.

It’s A-Boat Time to Go to West Virginia

Harpers Ferry

A little over one hour away, Harpers Ferry National Park is a historically-preserved region with museums, exhibits, and bookshops. Near the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers, Harpers Ferry has stunning views and parks. With trails spanning over 20 miles, there are historical buildings, sites, and natural scenes to witness.

Explore the Small Wonder

Rehoboth is in Delaware, also known as the Small Wonder. A little over two and a half hours away, Rehoboth is a cute beachtown with some of the best local boutiques, coffee shops, ice cream and candy stores, restaurants, and nightlife. Don’t let the size of Delaware fool you because there’s so much to do. Located next to national parks and other “small” beaches, Rehoboth is the perfect place to tan, swim, and enjoy water sports.

Pretty in Pennsylvania?

Bedford Springs

Tucked away in P.A. is Omni Bedford Springs Resort—a historic hotel with a nationally-acclaimed spa, fitness studio, golf course, and indoor and outdoor pools. Within the resort, the Bedford hotel has various gourmet dining venues, coffee shops, and casual eateries. This luxury and entertainment is approximately a 2.5-hour drive from Baltimore.

Pocono Mountains

A little over three hours away, the Pocono Mountains is a popular destination for hiking, biking, and everything in between. There are various resorts (some with indoor waterparks and pools), restaurants, casinos, and spas. Poconos also offers plenty of outdoor activities including but not limited to: golfing, ATVing, kayaking, boating, hiking, axe throwing, white water rafting, ziplining, and skydiving. Guests may also visit the various waterfalls and lakes.

Life’s a Beach in Jersey

Cape May

Cape May is full of fun things to do this summer. As one of America’s first seaside resorts, Cape May is a wonderful beach to visit. After a day in the sun, the Cape has plenty of restaurants, shops, and antique stores to visit. Guests are also encouraged to go whale watching. Come spend the day in the sun and sand—the 3-hour drive is worth it, we promise.
