Baltimore Nearby Travel Destinations for a Long Weekend

Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 29 this year. The U.S. holds the holiday and commemoration every year on the last Monday in May. Memorial Day is observed to honor and mourn soldiers who have lost their lives in battle.

However you spend your time on this holiday is okay; American tradition typically involves going away or spending time outside with friends or family.

Ready for Some Fun in the Sun?

Because who doesn’t love a beach vacay moment?

Dela-where? Delaware might be the second smallest state, but they have some of the best beaches. Rehoboth Beach is a 2.5-hour drive from Baltimore, and it’s worth every second. Rehoboth Beach is known for its nightlife, bars, and fabulous eateries, besides the beach (and their proximity to other local beaches such as Dewey Beach and Fenwick Island). Seriously, some of the best restaurants in the entire state are in Rehoboth. When there, make sure to check out 100 Flavors; yep, they have one-hundred flavors of ice cream.

Tropic like it’s hot in Ocean City, Maryland. Ocean City is a fantastic place to visit, a little under three hours away. Their beach is large and expansive, surrounded by an extensive boardwalk with eateries, shops, nightlife, and amusement parks. Jet ski, kayak, paddleboard, and boat rentals are also available.

Every day is sun-day at Cape Charles Beach in Virginia. This beach is known for having little to no waves, so swimming is a must. Besides relaxing in the sun and sand, Cape Charles is known for its water activities and sports (i.e., boating and fishing) in nearby lakes and rivers. Their town also has plenty of restaurants, boutiques, and spas. Oh, and did you know they have a drive-in theater? Cape Charles may be a 4-hour drive, but it’s a great place to spend Memorial Day Weekend.

Their Views are Tree-Mendous

So, spend some time outdoors this Memorial Day Weekend.

Lancaster, Pennsylvania, or “Amish Country,” is approximately a 1.5-hour drive from Baltimore. This countryside is a breath of fresh air. If you’re looking to relax, then visit Lancaster. When there, take a horse & buggy ride to an Amish village and visit local shops serving everything from artisanal crafts to authentic Dutch cuisine. Oh, and there’s an ice cream trail if you’re looking for a sweet treat.

Deep Creek is nature-al. About 1.5 hours away from Baltimore, Deep Creek has it all. There are various hiking trails, biking trails, fishing spots, whitewater sports, and horseback riding. So, come out and soak up some vitamin D.

Do you like hiking? Then stop by Harper’s Ferry National Park in West Virginia, about a 1.5-hour drive from Baltimore. Their 22 miles of rails are breathtaking and a bit hard to beat. If you’re going, see the confluence of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. Harper’s Ferry is also known for its historic town that will take you back in time with its architecture alone.

Tucked away in the West Virginian mountains, Berkeley Springs is a beautiful place to visit. Their attractions are worth the 2-hour drive from Baltimore. Berkeley Springs has America’s First Spa and numerous spa and wellness centers that offer massages, facials, acupuncture, and water treatments. The town is also known for its art galleries, studios, and outdoor activities such as horseback riding, biking, and hiking.

From the Union Wharf family to yours, we hope you have a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend!
