Now that it’s springtime, getting outdoors really is a breath of fresh air. March 30th is National Walk in the Park day, so what better occasion to explore some of Baltimore’s best parks!

After a long day of working, spending time outside is a great way to recharge and relax. Plus, walking allows you to catch up on your favorite podcasts and enjoy some quality time in a fun, healthy and free way. As a pet-friendly community, we know how important your pets are as well, so bring your furry friends for a romp in the park, too!

Union Wharf is perfectly situated close to plenty of amazing parks that offer history, amenities and natural beauty. We’ve curated a list of some of our favorite local options:

Baltimore’s Best Parks

Patterson Park

55-acre Patterson Park is one of the most popular parks in the city, and one of our particular favorites! It has a rich history, serving as a site for American troops in the War of 1812. Today, it offers countless amenities like playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, a swimming pool, even a lake. Patterson Park is the closest to Union Wharf, less than a 15 minute walk away.

Canton Waterfront Park

For a beautiful waterside stroll, Canton Waterfront Park offers unparalleled harbor views. It is located on Boston Street, just a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute drive from your Union Wharf apartment. There are lots of trails, making it an excellent destination for Walk in the Park Day. Make sure to visit the Koren War Memorial, honoring Marylanders who gave their lives.

Druid Hill Park

A walk around the reservoir at Druid Hill Park is also a wonderful waterfront Walk in the Park Day option. Here, there are plenty of shady paths and open, grassy fields for a picnic or reading a good book.

Federal Hill Park

Federal Hill Park, just across the harbor on Warren Ave, is another great spot for a peaceful walk, providing beautiful city skyline views. This hill also has a history, dating back to 1608, when Captain John Smith sailed up the Patapsco River. It was established as a public park in 1875, and since then has been a retreat for Baltimore residents and visitors alike.

Fort McHenry

Take in a national monument at Fort McHenry, a short drive from Union Wharf in Locust Point. Go for a walk around the grounds and learn about the fort’s historic past as a base in the War of 1812, World War I, and World War II.

Riverside Park

Riverside Park is situated right between Federal Hill and Locust Point, just a 15 minute drive from Union Wharf. Riverside offers over 17 acres of paths and greenery for you to enjoy and even has a swimming pool!

Carrol Park
Carroll Park is a great place to access the beautiful Gywnns Falls Trail. Following a serene stream, this is a great place to surround yourself with nature and feel like you’re worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Baltimore—right in your backyard! The park is just a 20 minute drive from Union Wharf.

Wyman Park Dell

Last but not least, Wyman Park Dell is another stunning place to enjoy nature. The park is just 15 minutes north of Union Wharf, near the Baltimore Museum of Art. It was opened in 1904 and is full of sloping pathways, native plants, and beautiful views.

No time to make it to the park? Simply walking around the neighborhood can be an enjoyable time—you don’t have to go far from Union Wharf to see the rich history of Fells Point.
